The main unique feature of the Lely Astronaut A4 milking robot is the special box design that allows cows to pass through. This construct implements the concept of free flow. Practice and research show that cows are actually unable to turn in tight spaces. If cows are given the option of straight-line entry and exit from the box, then all unnecessary obstacles are eliminated. Due to the fact that after milking the trough is retracted to the side, the cow is "invited" to leave the milking box, since there is nothing in front of her, and she will no longer be able to receive feed. The sooner the cow leaves the stall, the sooner the next cow will take her place. While this is a minor benefit, a gain of five seconds per milking can easily amount to a time saving of 15 minutes per day, or an extra cow!

To ensure optimal milking, different adjustments are ideally needed per quarter of the udder. With the Lely 4Effect pulsator, pulsation can be adjusted to a quarter of the udder. This guarantees a truly individual treatment of the cow and thus a "personalized" milking. The powerful robot arm has proven its reliability in practice since its first installation in 1992. This manipulator eliminates the need for unnecessary movement, treats the cows much more gently, prevents the teat cups from falling to the ground and provides the most secure fit.
